New demographics are bringing profound changes to the global workforce. Many experts predict that population aging will bring growing labor shortages and reductions of talented and skilled workers in many developed countries, resulting in decreases in competitiveness of businesses and economies. These changes also bring vast opportunities to capitalize on the enormous human capital of mature workers who are living longer and healthier lives. Encouraging mature workers to work longer is one way to help address looming labor shortages, but new strategies are required to change the nature of workplaces, public policies, and attitudes.
AARP and the European Commission convened this forum to discuss new strategies for new demographics and to learn about global innovative government, industry, and social partner strategies for addressing aging workforce issues.
Conference topics included:
- Combating Age Discrimination and Promoting Age Diversity in the Workplace
- Life-Long Learning and Training
- Financial Considerations for Working Longer
- Making Workplaces and Working Time More Accommodating
