On the occasion of the global celebration of the United Nations International Day of Older Persons, AARP, the National Alliance for Caregiving, and the United Nations Programme on Ageing hosted a meeting to discuss the latest pertinent issues on family caregiving. Speakers presented regional perspectives on caregiving to highlight the increasingly important role family caregivers play around the world as the backbone of their countries' long-term care systems. A unique opportunity to share best practices and lessons learned by UN Member States and NGO representatives, this half-day event also served as a lead-up to the National Family Caregivers Month in the US in November.
Baroness Jill Pitkeathley, Member of the United Kingdom House of Lords, delivered the keynote address. Baroness Pitkeathley previously served as chief executive of Carers UK.
