AARP and the Council for the Third Age (C3A) co-hosted an international conference on older workers and financial security for seniors with in Singapore, January 7-9, 2009. The conference brought together over 400 thought leaders and policymakers from government, business, NGOs, and academia, throughout Asia, Oceania, the United States, and international bodies such as the UN, ILO, and OECD.
The conference, with over 50 media representatives, was also highlighted in the lead article ("PM urges no let up - Outdated social attitudes will have to change for successful ageing") in the January 9 edition of the Straits Times.
This high-profile international event featured the Prime Minister of Singapore, Mr. Lee Hsien Loong, as the keynote speaker (read Prime Minister Lee's article in AARP's winter 2009 edition of The Journal). AARP Board Member Dr. William Hall delivered an opening address immediately preceding the Prime Minister's speech on Day 1 and closing remarks on Day 2.

This conference is the fifth in a series of "Reinventing Retirement" conferences, in which AARP exchanges valuable policy lessons in the areas of older workers and financial security with leaders around the world.
