On February 2nd, the first session of the AARP-UN Briefing Series, speakers discussed the theme of the Commission for Social Development, 48th Session, "Social Integration." Special emphasis was placed on global health and human rights of older persons in particular, access and barriers to health services, reform of health systems, and health care expenditure.

On February 3rd, the second session of the AARP-UN Briefing Series, speakers discussed and reviewed the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing in relation to the theme of the Commission for Social Development, "Social Integration". The discussion focused on strengthening the human rights of older persons and including them as agents of change in their societies.
