Europe has seen significant cross-border migration flows in the past half century as labor migrants, skilled workers and refugees have crisscrossed the continent. Contrary to the assumptions of post-war European immigration policy, most migrants do not return to their home countries in late life. Meanwhile, a growing number of amenity-seeking, affluent Northern Europeans relocate to the South of Europe in retirement. These developments have led to a significant and highly diverse older migrant population in Europe. How do Europe's older migrants fare? What are the issues they face?
AARP interviewed Jean Lambert, a Member of the European Parliament and co-president of the AGE - European Older People's Platform Intergroup on Ageing to discuss the situation of older migrants in Europe.

Countries around the globe are facing rapidly aging populations coupled with falling birth rates. That could mean significant labor shortages as more people reach retirement age. In Germany, for instance, the elderly population has nearly doubled in the past 50 years and the ratio of elderly to the working age population is declining.
In this Newsmaker, Dr. Jürgen Deller, Professor of Organizational Psychology at the Leuphana University of Leuneburg, Germany, discusses possible solutions to combat labor shortages caused by a rapidly aging workforce.

As countries continue to age at a rapid rate, so too are their economies. Leading economists and demographers predict significant labor shortages as populations reach official or traditional retirement age. The integration of older workers into the economy is increasingly seen as an attractive policy option for employers and governments to meet a labor and 'talent gap' in the market, as well as reduce the costs of pensions and health care services.
The UK is one example of where both employers and government have successfully managed to extend the working lives of older persons. AARP interviewed Chris Ball, Chief Executive Officer of The Age and Employment Network (TAEN) to discuss recent changes in UK's labor market and how might others learn from the country's example.

In this AARP News Maker interview, Shashi Tharoor, Under-Secretary-General for Communications and Public Information of the United Nations, discusses the impact of global aging and what role the UN is playing.
