Chef de Cabinet to the President of the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly

Hon. Kwabena Osei-Danquah is the Chef de Cabinet to the President of the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly. He was Ambassador at Large of Ghana until his appointment.

Ambassador Osei-Danquah has served in various capacities as a diplomat for his native Ghana and a senior official of the United Nations over the course of 33 years.

He was the Director of the Division for Governance and Multilateral Affairs (DGACM) of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) from the beginning of April 2015 until his nomination as Chef de Cabinet to the then President-Elect of the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly.

He joined UNFPA in 2002, after working as a diplomat for Ghana for over 17 years. During that period, he represented Ghana at many international conferences and trade missions and served four years at Ghana’s Embassy in Prague to the then Czechoslovakia and subsequently to the Czech Republic, accredited to the Slovak Republic, Hungary and Poland. From 1985 until 1991 he was a part-time speechwriter for the then Head of State of Ghana.

Prior to joining UNFPA, Hon. Kwabena Osei-Danquah served a four-year tour of duty as Minister Counsellor at the Permanent Mission of Ghana to the United Nations in New York, responsible for economic and financial matters. In that capacity, he negotiated, on behalf of the Group of 77 and China, key chapters of the Monterrey Consensus on Financing for Development and the outcome of the World Summit on Sustainable Development in 2002. He served as Vice-President of the bureaus of the International Conference on Financing for Development and the Executive Board of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and UNFPA.

Ambassador Osei-Danquah is a poet in private life and is the author of “Life Poems: Traveling the Emotional Universe”.
