José António Vieira da Silva is the Minister of Labour, Solidarity, and Social Security of the Portuguese Republic. He holds a degree in Economics from the Instituto Superior de Economica.
Since 2011, he has been a Member of the Assembly of the Republic, having been between 2011 and 2015 President of the Eventual Commission to Follow-up the Program of Financial Assistance to Portugal. He was Minister of Economy, Innovation and Development (2009-2011); Minister of Labour and Social Solidarity (2005-2009); Deputy to the Assembly of the Republic (2002-2005), Head of the Parliamentary Committee of Work and Social Security (2004-2005); Secretary of State for Social Security (1999-2001); Secretary of State for Public Works (2001-2002).
