Rosemary Lane has a background in social policy and development. She has worked extensively on the issue of aging, having been a member of the team that drafted the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing, which was adopted by the United Nations in 2002. She leads a team that is the focal point for the UN system on ageing issues and is responsible for reporting to the General Assembly on the implementation of the Madrid International Plan of Action as well as providing support to the Open-ended working group on ageing for the human rights of older persons.

Ms Lane has worked with governments in North, East and West Africa, the Caribbean, and Central Asia in carrying out needs assessments, running training workshops, and providing technical support in the drafting of national policies and programs on aging. She holds an M.A. in Social Policy from the State University of New York (1999).
